What does it mean to have an abundance mindset?
Hi all, I hope things are going well. The other day, I went to see one of my mentors Roy McDonald from OneLife. If any of you have met him in person, he is truly a very genuine and inspirational man. I find everytime I listen to him during his seminars I learn more and more every time. Thank you Roy for always inspiring me one step at a time.
One of the lessons that clicked for me yesterday in particular was about what it really meant to have an abundant mindset.
If I were to ask you, “Do you think you will die of starvation, when you pass away”. I know that this seems quite a confronting question but for many of you, you will answer with a confident “No, I’m sure I won’t”.
And if I were to ask you, “What makes you so sure?. You don’t know where your source of food is going to come from in the next 20-30-40 years, let alone next week, how can you be so confident?”. Many of you will answer something like, food is every where, I always know where to get it, and if it isn’t available where I normally go, I will find a way to find more food somewhere else.
As you can clearly see with many of us, we have an abundance mindset with food, but not with money. This can apply to friendship, love and much much more.
If you really analysed the way we think about food you would see that if we applied the same mindset to finances or money we would really have this abundance mindset. For most of us, we were conditioned to believe that growing up, we’d never have a shortage of food in the house, yet money was precious and in short supply. “Money doesn’t grow on trees”, yet, “Make sure you finish all your food on your plate, or else you won’t get dessert”.
Could you imagine if the roles were reversed. “Food doesn’t just grow on trees”, “Make sure you invest all your money properly, else you won’t get some more”.
Quite the mindset shift right?
So the next time I urge, you. If you ever have trouble contemplating what it means to have an abundance mindset, simply think of food. If you have no food in your house, or in your lunch box, what would you do. You might check the shops? And if all the shops were closed would you stress out? And if you weren’t able to get any food, you might go check your friends house or your parents house. And failing that, you might even go cook some food with what you have managed to find outside. Maybe an insect, maybe a rabbit? When we’re hungry almost anything is edible, and we will ALWAYS find a way to make sure we don’t go hungry.
So why not make it, endeavor to have a abundance mindset about money, friendship, love in the same way you have about food. You will find your life will truly change by leaps and bounds when you accomplish this.
Remember that sometimes the more you give something away, the more it comes back to you. As Roy had told me in the seminar, if you want love, give love away, if you want friendship give friendship away, and yes, if you want money, you have to give it away as well (charity).
I hope that this article has been useful,
I found it rang true for me, and I have committed to making I apply this technique.
My belly is always full. Now, so too will be my wallet and finances.
To your success,
Kase Cheah
