Time is a funny thing and so is our perception of reality. Why do I say this? Because even though it is exactly the same for everyone when measured technically it appears to be immensely different, in everyone’s perceptions.

Why Certain Actions Seem to Take Longer and Others Shorter

Over the years we have learned to enjoy and dislike certain tasks. For example I can compare house chores such as cleaning the dishes, taking out the rubbish, washing my clothes to FEEL much longer than much more enjoyable tasks such as watching a great comedy series on the television, going for a fitness workout or even eating a delicious meal.

The trick is that our brains are actually quite smart. They try at all costs to avoid pain and increase pleasure. So every time you think about a particular task your mind will actually set a perceived time value for that action item, even before you start doing it. If it is something you enjoy your mind will tend to shorten the time perception, meaning that you will most likely end up doing that action longer than you originally intended. And inversely, if you dislike taking out the rubbish, your mind will make you feel like it is a chore that takes literally hours to stop you from taking that action.

The only ‘time’ this never happens is if you’ve never heard of or performed that action before. Why is this? Because you have no current associations with it. This is just like putting your hand on a hot stove for the first time, you don’t equate pleasure of pain with it, so there’s no time association. Another trick the mind likes to use is to make us experience the actual time taking during the action to be different. eg. Putting your hand on a hot stove can feel like 5-10 minutes even though it is for a second. This creates a major pain association to help aid in your protection or survival.

So What’s the Trick, How can I use this to my Advantage?

Awareness is the key to this little paradox. The more awareness you bring to an action or problem the more control you have over it, especially the way it influences your emotions and time reality. If you hate taking out the rubbish, or doing the dishes, then measure it next time. If it takes you only 2-5 minutes to take out the trash then write it down.

eg. Daily Chores

* Taking out trash – 2 minutes

* Dishes – 10 minutes

* Cleaning my room – 5 minutes.

Total Time: 15 minutes

Then you can change your perception or association to this task by telling yourself every day, it’s only 15 minutes. It’s only a fraction of my time, not an eternity. You can then change your associations to these tasks by making them fun and more enjoyable. Simple things such as setting a speed record for yourself, thereby reducing your time spent on chores or playing music you love while performing these actions. If you bring enough awareness to the problem/task and overlay it with enough positive associations you will learn how to use this little paradox to your benefit every day.

The last bit of advice I can give you is to watch out for the time you have spent on enjoyable but little priority items. Such as watching hours of television, spending incredible amounts of time online for non-productive social conversation, or even spending hours doubting yourself. Write everything down, bring more awareness to it and you will start to utlise your life in the best ways possible.

Do you erupt at every moment in life?

Lets talk about life. A very popular topic but not one that everyone really truly understands. The biggest thing I’ve noticed around people I see is that life seems to be “spinning out of control for them”. I know I’ve been there, and nowadays I do genuinely feel I do have at least some control of my life, although I know I still have ways to go I know where I want my future self to be.

So here we go, 5 simple tips to taking control of your life.

1. How reactive are you emotionally?

Ever heard of the cliche “act don’t react to life”? Most of us feel we lose control of life because we are very reactive to every little problem, every comment made by another person, every feeling, thought and emotion. This is not to mean that we need to go through life being emotionless, cold and distant from every body but what it does mean is that you should at least pause, stop to think, “what does this mean to me and does it really affect me” then chose an appropriate action.

2. We have complete control of our emotions if we choose to think and act before we feel.

You’ll realize that many of your emotions are just simple triggers. Like getting angry if someone violates your values or getting sad after your feel loss (loved one, sense of identity or security, or maybe a object you treasure).

If you are a very reactive person the key is to become more aware. Instead of blaming how bad your life is due to your emotions, why not catch yourself when you know you’ve lost sense of yourself after a breakdown. The more you catch yourself the earlier you’ll be able to catch your emotions before they run rampant and become uncontrollable.

3. What does this mean to me?

eg 1: Stranger comes up to you and tells you that you are are hopeless.

Reactive: “How dare you! You don’t even know me”, or “I can’t believe he/she said that too me, now I feel horrible”.

Nonreactive: “I don’t know this person, their opinion doesn’t affect me. If they were a loved one then perhaps this might be a cry for help.” or “Thanks, how are you going today”.

Being non-reactive doesn’t have to make sense, it just have to be enough to allow to have time to choose how you think, feel and act.

4. Deal with the small things, start working in your priorities.

Life can be a marathon and your problems can seem like a garbage tip. The key is to keep moving forward even if its one small step at a time. Once you start building momentum you can start tackling bigger and bigger tasks.

Thing of it like gears in a car. You always start with first gear, then shift to second, third, fourth, fifth and etc. If you tried to start the car in neutral and then shift straight to 4th or 5th gear what happens? You stall because there is not enough momentum to keep the car going at that gear. So before you try to shift into higher gears in life, try starting from the beginning and building up momentum.

5. Self centered versus centering yourself and attracting and influencing the world.

There are two extremes but you can get 3 types of people.

- Self Centered
- Pinball
- Magnetic and Influential

Self Centered people are usually non-reactive but there’s one problem. They are usually so self absorbed they do not have the ability to leverage others to attract everything they want in their life, nor are they extremely influential, unless it’s through physical means for example.

Pinballs are the type of people that let their environment and the people dictate everything that happens to them in life. They launch off into life with the plunger, then get knocked about by every single obstacle, noise and crazy atmosphere. They never know where they are going and rely on “luck” or so called fate.

Magnetic’s and Influentials are the type of people are non reactive to their evironment, they choose how to act to the people and environment and problems around their life. They hold such a strong core and end up creating their “fate” and in the process know how to leverage others to do it by serving/helping others get what they want. This is the type of person you want to be, with this type of personality you can have anything you want in life without letting obstacles, problems and negative people bring you down.

In summary, take a close look at your life and see what category you fall in and perhaps it might surprise you how easy it is to change your life by making a simple adjustment to your personality.

Its you're birthday, lets have a party

Lets talk about your motivation. Why do so many people hype motivation but yet so little people practice it. We’ve all been there and if I’m right, you are reading this because you seem to be lacking some juice in life. You are most likely waking up, exhausted, tired and dreading the morning right? I know, because I still do that at times. But motivation is like anything, its like eating healthy or staying fit, it has be practiced every day. Don’t be a motivational junkie, be a motivational practitioner.

1. Its your birthday today and every day.

This is a great game I love to play at times, when I’m out and having trouble finding the energy to talk and associate with people. So energy is about state and if you’re in a great state, its easy to find energy even if you’re physically depleted. Do you notice that when you’re a kid especially how fun your birthday was? Why because it was a celebration of life, it was growth because you grew taller, you older, you get presents especially and you had an excuse to action stupidly excited. Why because its you’re birthday!

Do you notice that when it really is your birthday, it seems to light up peoples moods and raise their energies, create laughter and generally you seem to have this special birthday Aura. You’re still the same person mind you but this little statement has given you permission to act, silly, have fun and invite people to the party that is you. Now I’m not telling you tell people its your birthday every day, but if you practice life like its your birthday every day, you will find you naturally have the energy to enjoy the day and strive for new goals!

2. Plan your day ahead, planning is fun.

Wow! Do you know why people have a day that’s never exciting or fulfilling. Cause they never plan for it. Ever heard that line “Failure to plan, is planning to fail”. Guess what if you don’t plan for any excitement or fun the day before next you’ll never have anything to look forward to, unless you’ve already scheduled it. Ever notice when you’re a kid you’re always planning what you’re going to do tomorrow. You’re so excited that you hate it when the day ends, you always like it to last longer because you are enjoying things so much. And you probably already know what you’re doing tomorrow to have some fun excitement. Such as “Tomorrow I’m going to build the biggest castle” or “I’m going to have a play date with barbie and her friends”. So if you’re day seems to be (in lack of better words) “sucking” ask yourself if you are planning to make it a good one in the first place. Great things don’t just happen by accident.

3. Make someone smile today.

Give a gift and the greatest and free gift you can give to someone is a smile. Smiles are infectious and they work the best when they become an epidemic. I remember one time I went to a restaurant with a friend, I saw that the waitress was walking around without so much of a smile so I decided to give a sincere and genuine compliment and try to make her smile for that day. I had mentioned that I loved the red streaks in her hair, and thought it they looked gorgeous. Wow, she returned one of the greatest smiles I had seen and said thank you, I just got them done. And guess what for the rest of the night she was smiling and had great energy. Ok wow my friend said where did that come from? But you know what, that night she would have created her own epidemic of smiles and energy just by showing it. How did it start? Just from a tiny gift of giving, you can affect the world… or at least your local restaurant.

4. Plan some growth today.

We all need to grow. Anthony Robbins always said, if we don’t grow, we die. Ever noticed your most depressing day. Why does it feel so bad. Because I bet that one of the reasons is that you aren’t experiencing any growth. Growth is a natural human experience and if we don’t have it in someway, spiritual, mental, physical, relationship we feel depressed. Feelings are a major aspect of human life, and they are a way to channel our progress or experience in life. Going back to the birthday example, why do we love this day, because it represents a significant pivot or turning point in our life. We are suddenly more responsible and capable, we are finally old enough to receive more pocket money or drive the car. This represents growth. So if you are noticing that ever year gets more and more depressing, ask yourself if you are growing or regressing. If you are regressing, start planning some growth today and tomorrow, whether that is becoming more fit, taking up a new hobby or improving your relationships.

5. Practice jumping out of bed, literally.

Its your birthday, celebrate, jump out of bed, go YIPEEEEEE and go “I”m …. years old”. Celebrate it, life is a celebration. If you wake up with dread every day, and lack of energy you’ve just practised how to do it, and guess what. You’re very good at doing it! So if you can practice feeling dreadful every day, I’m sure you can practice jumping out of bed every day, even if you don’t feel like it. Excite your body and you will notice it will start literally jumping out of bed for you. (Not recommended if you are on the top bunk of a bunk bed heheh).

Anger is an emotion, controlling its effects on you is a choice.

Lets talk anger management!

Even the most patient of us can get angry at times. It all depends how big our tolerance reservoir is. See many negative states like stress, anger and frustration are caused by having too much energy in the body, either mentally, spiritually or physically. So in this article I will be teaching you how to manage your anger, and my methods for MANAGING not avoiding anger.

You cannot avoid every problem or challenge in life, problems come and problems go but you’ll never be rid of them forever. This is like anger, this is a state you can not avoid in life. It happens to all of us, some more than others. Why do so many of us handle anger differently? Because we have different rules.

You can control your anger, and its important to manage it. If not then you are vulnerable to hurting those around you that you love, missing out on opportunities, or inevitably missing out on life in general because you are focused so much more on a negative and destructive emotion than positive ones like love, fun, joy.

1. Denial is not just a river in Egypt =)

Are you renown to be an angry person? Do people say you have a bad temper? If so, admit it. You can’t fix an issue unless you know its already there. As they say the truth will set you free, so if you want to be free of the green eye monster, realize that it exists and there are ways to manage it.

2. Body language controls your emotions.

As I’ve learnt from Anthony Robbins, emotions have a set of criteria and most importantly body language is one of the major drivers of emotion. If I asked you to describe to me the body language of an angry person what would you say? I bet it would be tenseness, clenched fists – possibly waving up in the air, clenched teeth, furrowed brows or wide opened eyes, or glaring eyes, big powerful stance, flaring of muscles? We all know because we’ve all been angry at one time or another. So if you ever catch yourself with a temper, notice your body language. And if you notice it follows the typical patterns immediately change it to something not associated with anger, such as happiness or even just neutral.

3. Practice makes perfect, anger is just a very well conditioned habit, its a choice.

This is a fantastic technique I learnt at an Anthony Robbins seminar, its about triggering and NLP. How about trying this. Stand in front of a mirror, now think of an angry thought. Focus on the feeling, focus on something that makes you angry, now perform the body language which I’m sure you already know.

Now in an instant change your body language. Put a cheesy ear to ear grin on your face, jump up and down and act goofy, even talk in a goofy voice and enjoy the process. Now repeat. Get back into an angry state for a few seconds, then instantly snap back into a fun, goofy state. I’m sure you know how to do this because we were all experts at being goofy and funny when we were kids. What’s the point of this? This is to help you trigger different emotional states as soon as you notice your anger taking control of you. The point is to notice and be aware as soon as possible. It is much easier to stop a car that’s just moved 1 inch, than it is to stop a car traveling at 100km’s per hour. How much easier would life be if you could laugh every time you got angry?

4. Realize what language you are using.

Language controls everything! (Yet another AR lesson). The language you use will change the way you feel. Why because we associate different emotions to different languages. If you are using intense overwhelming language, guess what? You’re going to be triggered to feel angry a lot easier. If you use language like “I’m so pissed off”, “I’m so f…. angry”, “I’m infuriated!”. Guess what, it’s like pushing that red button that says “Self Destruct”. So next time you feel angry and out of control change your language to something less intensive. Use something like “I’m kind of annoyed”, “I’m a little peeved” or “I’m irritated”  or “I’m somewhat mad” followed by a smile. Language will change your states, try it!

5. Its all about your rules and perspective.

People trigger anger emotions. I’m sure that you have different tolerance levels for different people. Some people make you more angry than others and some people no matter how bad they treat you, they might never make you angry. Lets look at the manic angry person. Someone who gets angry at their children, spouse, and generally everyone around them. What are they likely to do?

One, perhaps they will deny they have anger management issues and two, they will say its out of their control so there’s no point in trying to control it, that people around him/her just have to deal with it. Lets say this same person is having a really bad day, is on the verge of blowing up, he gets pulled over by a police man who catches them from speeding. Do you really think that same person is going to use the same language patterns, body language, and authoritative stance they would use with their family and friends? Very highly unlikely because the ultimate consequence of fear (being locked up in jail, losing their driver’s license, getting beat up) overpowers the dominant anger emotion.

So change your rules about how you react to different people especially your loved ones. Create new consequences for unleashing your anger in a negative or unproductive way. eg. “If I shout at my kids and spouse and abuse them, I will have to deal with the long term pain of being alone forever”. If you get used to this habit you will find you will start conditioning your mind to react differently.

6. Release your anger productively, reset your tolerance levels.

I love exercising! If I am feeling stressed, angry, frustrated I will usually hit the gym straight away. I will go for a long and exhausting run, or I will lift an incredibly heavy weight, like 500kg leg presses =D. Anger is a build of up intense energy so why not use it productively to create a healthy body instead of releasing it unhealthily at your loved ones.

I notice that if I’m feeling angry/frustrated I will usually be able to lift significantly more than if I’m exercising in a state that’s sad or depressed (lack of energy). So for this reason I love going to the gym when I’m angry and attempting to break a new person record. Why is this productive, because it immediately makes me feel great! I’m am doing two things, releasing my anger and resetting my tolerance levels and also conditioning my body to convert an anger emotion to a happy emotion or even neutral or tired emotion at worst.

7. Change your identity, change your peers, change your habits.

Being angry is just a learned habit. Perhaps you learned it from your parents, your peers, family or friends. If you are known to be a person who is naturally bad tempered then you have just fixed your identity. Try changing it. If you pick a new persona, or identity that does not have anger as a dominant emotion you will learn to change your habits. eg. Go from angry man to passionate lover or angry woman to competitive athlete and etc.

Also go associate yourself with more positive people. We tend to pick up the habits of those we hang around with. If you hang around angry people you are going to pick up their body language, verbal speech patterns, values and so on (anger recipe). Change your habits and you will open a new gate to mastering and managing your anger.

Are you treating Internet Marketing as a medium for your business? Yes that’s right I said it, a business and not a hobby.

If you are looking to make a solid and consistent income, you cannot hope to fumble around in the dark without a plan, and pray that you will strike it rich, much like buying a lottery ticket and hoping one day you will hit the Jackpot. Yes the law of attraction does work, but its a tad difficult when a few million other people are wishing the exact same thing as you. Running your Internet Marketing business as with anything will require a recipe or business plan, much like you would have if you are trading stocks.

After reading Module 1 (15-Step Top Secret Super Affiliates Blueprint)  Ewen’s Chia’s Super Affiliates course its become blindingly obvious why so many out there are not succeeding in creating a cashflow income online.

I would like to share you with you 5 tips I have learnt from the course combined with my knowledge of attraction marketing and social media.

1. Treat Internet Marketing as a business instead of a hobby.

If you want serious money then you have to treat your cashflow system seriously as a business. Too many people out there have spent numerous hours on expensive courses, tried every system under the sun but are still failing at this incredibly lucrative business.

Design a marketing campaign and game plan for your business. This will be your blueprint which you will be modifying over time. eg. Your plan should include your traffic generating methods, your set of products which you are marketing, avenues you are using to marketing your products – Article Writing, Social Media, Offline promotion methods, and much more.

2. Take daily actions to improve your business.

If you owned a traditional business would you be looking after it each day if it did not meet your standards or if it was not making any cash at all. So why, if you are using this vehicle are you letting the days slipping by without any action at all? If your business online is not working, then you need to take immediate action to find out what you are doing wrong or what other’s are doing right.

There are plenty of people who are already successful online, the Internet is the biggest resource of information in the world. Why not use it to start increasing your knowledge and experience. There are plenty of free courses out there, plenty of cost effective educational material and plenty of expensive courses. It is your job to find out what you are capable of undertaking and commit to daily action.

3. Follow a proven system which is a blueprint, not a series of general advice.

Wow this is probably one of the most significant steps in this process. If you are baking a cake, are you going to try to think up of a recipe yourself, then make your friends and family try it out or are you going to look for a experienced chef, or well known cook book that will teach you how to cook the perfect cake. I’m sorry but if you have a bad recipe, no matter no many hours and day you put into it, it is most likely to end up giving you a bad cake. Like any business, a model needs to be precise, and not general. This is just like any fitness training routine, or any system to fix cars or assemble computers. There is usually a very very precise blueprint that must be followed to guarantee the same results. Fortunately there is one system out there that covers Affiliate Marketing and Internet marketing to an exact recipe which any body, even you can follow. It is available here.

4. Maintain a list, track your conversions and bench mark your results.

Everything needs to be tested. What is the easiest way to bench mark your business. Look at conversions. Everything can be a conversion. Opt in lists, sales, memberships. Keep an accurate record of these aspects and use it to bench mark your results. One of the easiest way to start is to measure how many people are visiting your opt-in page and how many people are signing up. Aim to improve your bench markets and conversions daily.

5. Build rapport and focus on providing more than you ask for.

Its all about rapport building and value providing. You will notice you will be rewarded by the amount of value you provide. This is much like the traditional JOB (Just Over Broke). The more value you provide to society, the more you get paid. eg. Doctors and surgeons will inherently get paid more than a retail store assistant. Why because they are providing more value and saving lives. Ask  yourself, if you are not getting paid any income through your business, what value are you providing your audience and how much quality is in this value.

It is all about rapport. You cannot expect a first time visitor to come to your website, blog, affiliate link and purchase your product. They don’t know you, they don’t trust you so why would they buy off you. While being an Internet Marketer myself I’m quite aware of all the techniques out there already to increase sales, traffic and have products that are compelling enough for prospects to pull out their credit card and purchase. So what happened? I found myself  doing exactly that, =D. Why? Firstly the product itself is only $50 USD a month. Now compare this to courses that most Guru’s are charging out there which can easily run into the thousands. Normally I would expect to pay a few thousand for this type of information but it was all here. Life is a race, its all about what you put in.

I’m writing this article for my dear friend Rahma (good luck with your exams), while she is preparing for her final exams. Being a master of analogies I thought I’d write about this one, which has probably been done before but I will add my own spin.

Life is an amazing concept, something that we all do not truly understand till we have been through all its many stages, and almost reached the finish line. Its a wonder though that we all seem to flounder around this journey, at times, wondering what directions we’re going, whether we should turn back, or how far until the end of the line.

Lets talk about the core concepts of a race. So before we even race, we usually train, prepare, and have a goal. We train (not try), every day, until we reach our maximum potential and even then we like to push our limits and surprise not only those around us but our own selves as well. But why do we spend so much time preparing for something that might last 15-30 seconds of our life?

Because the training allows us to take advantage of the opportunity and the goal when it comes by. It allows us to catch that goal that would normally not be possible if we had not trained. This is life. You train yourself so that you can receive the multitude of gifts it can provide you, without your goals, training and preparation of what you want your life to ultimately be, you’re just aimlessly wondering the track.

So we all know preparation, we all know how to set goals, how to go about achieving them and the fact that we need to always keep taking a step forward. If not you’ll have to go back and read some of my articles =)

Starting

Inevitably one of the hardest stages of a race. Why. Because we have no momentum and it is a measure of our training. Same with striving for any goals. Taking the first step is always a challenge, but guess what we’re all very good at it, because we were born to take our first steps in anything we do, walking, eating, making friends, finding love. Most of us will usually know in the first few steps whether our training has prepared us properly and whether we have a chance of winning or in this case reaching our goal or catching the opportunity. So prepare yourself, everyday, until you know that one day, your training will allow you to reach the finish line as a winner.

Enduring the race

Racing is fun. I love it. Why? Because you’re always competing to be better. That’s why its great to train with and race against other equal or better standard competitors. It will naturally bring out the best in you as well as giving you a reason to raise your standards. Much like life if you want more in life you must hang out with people that have what you want and use them as a bench mark to reach your goals. Endurance is important in any race. The more you train the more energy you have to sustain. But much like a race you need to pace yourself, save enough energy for that final burst. If you start any goal, make sure you save your reserves for the whole. Spend too much physical and mental energy at the start, and you’ll deplete your reserves leaving you frustrated, burnt out and unable to go the mile. The key is to persist and endure.

Winning or Crossing the finish line

This is what its all about. All that training, all that running all that work. Why oh why do such a huge percentage of us give up when we’ve done 90% of the race and we’re on par or just behind our competitors. Its all about putting all your last reserves into this final few steps. Many of us quit our goals, when we’re almost there because we look back. We look back to see how far we’ve come, how much effort we’ve put in and then in that split second we make a decision which will determine if we will reach the finish line. Has this all been worth, or is there a much easier race? In that small time frame you can lose a whole race. When things seem tough, all odds stacked up against, you, its easy to give up, drop your standards and do something that is “more achievable”.

The last sprint is a test of endurance, willingness, mental determination and guess what, it separates the winners from the losers, 1st place from 2nd place by only a mere split second or less. You see, the people in life that have everything you want, aren’t 10 times better than you, smarter than you or more capable. They have only trained and prepared more than you have and have managed to sum up the last of their reserves to push past the pain and take what they know is rightfully theirs, first place. As Anthony Robbins said, the difference between having a great life and an extraordinary life is only a few millimeters.

Lesson? Don’t quit, until you know there’s nothing left, that you have done your best. You won’t know that the opportunity is over until its gone. So cross that line, even if you’re first, second, third or last. If you’re not first, we go back to training. We train with others better than us, others who have what we want and we race the same race again and again until we win. So when life gets tough, don’t tell yourself to settle for less. You know that trophy is rightfully yours, so train for it, instead of striving for something easier and less fulfilling.

So that’s it my friends, play to win! Train hard, prepare, grab the opportunities when you see them, never give up on your goals and take the trophy back so you can display it proudly on your wall. When you leave your legacy behind, you want to be remembered for all your trophies (inspiration, gratitude, friendships, amazing relationships, people whose hearts you’ve touched and much more).
